Spanish Translations
« am: 13. Dezember 2006, 20:57:19 »
Hallo alle, I've discovered MMM some months ago, it's a great fan project.

Noted that only few episodes are in English, and the rest only on German original language.
My idea is to translate some episodes into Spanish; did a mock-test with the Bernard Haus-starterpack where I could manage to translate all, even the menu controls, but isn't clear to me how to generate translation sources or .tra files. When I try do to it, AGS says that there is nothing to translate and finally does "empty" .tra files.

Maybe if I could see the source of Episode 01 could make me easily to understand that.

¡Finally could understand how to do it!
Lasts to know how to arrange object translations in the .tra file (Bild "Eierkopf" to "Erudito" in Spanish for example).

great idea :-)
translations can be done in any language with the translation file.
you need this translation files from the game authors, they must make a translation source-file from there game, which is a *.txt file.
you take this original translation txt file, there is always a blank line under the original text, where you write the translation of the above sentence.
two translation files from my episode 09 are attached, one time with the blank spaces, the other on with the english translation on it.
if the translation is ready, the game author must compile the *.txt file with ags, and then it can be used in the game.
the bigger problem is the interface, therefore the game author must insert the language graphics in the game and recompile the whole game. only the english interface is in all the starterpacks included.

Thanks Rocco! Doing the translation without the source files is quite difficult (I have to play the game to understand where the texts are allocated) but I'll try to do it.

Meanwhile, you could see here the compilled executable from the Bernard Haus-Starterpack with the Spanish translation included on a .tra file. Into the game, I included Spanish language graphics for the menu:

hey cossack,

this was not a demand to make a translation for episode 09, it was only an example to describe how it works with the translation files.
epi 9 also has a huge amount of words, so it would be a lot of work to translate this episode.
but if you really want to do that, and you need the source files, i can send it to you ;).

i have seen your bernard starterpack, great work i unfortunatly cant understand spain, but it looks like an perfect translation.
i you have a functioning spanish starterpack, give it to me and i include it on the mmm download - page.

Rocco, the Spanish translation of Episode 9 is already done! I included on the zip filesome notes and the graphics in Spanish needed for the game menu, some more graphics for the English and Spanish versions in case you could included them into the game (LucasFan did it at Episode 01).
Just needed to beta-test how it works on the game to check if all it's fine.

About the Bernard Haus starterpack in Spanish, I have two versions: one directly in Spanish, and other like the original in German, but with an attached Spanish.tra file to have a Spanish version. I ask whether of these two do you prefer that I send.

Here is the Spanish translation source of Episode 9 to download:

Look under my last message, there is the attachment to the file.
Although it serves mainly for the author of the episode.

you can send me both versions, we can include both on the mmm homepage, but you must send me a little spanish description.

hi cossack,

i have compiled the game with your translations, and here is the output.
-> http://rapidshare.com/files/9279798/mmm_09_v1_05_spain.zip.html
thanks for your effort, i know how much work are behind these translations.

thanks also for your suggestions, but i dont want to put more time and work in this epi,
cause with the translations, it is much more complicated now to alter one single word.

please check the game with the spanish translation, and when i get your ok,
i will release it on the main page, also with the translated starterpack  :D
please send me the correct spelling and name for the credits, in the readme file (maybe URL).

sorry that it takes long with me these days, but christmas time seems a bit more stressfull then usual  ;D
i really high appreciate your work, and im happy that someone has tackled this thing.

happy new year from ronville  8)
