What are the rules about using other members' graphics?

Well, my MMM episode had to be postponed due to family problems, but I'm ready to get back to it, hence my question about using other people's graphics

By 'using' I mean 'editing'.  May I edit in the way of shading, textures, or are we supposed to leave them 'as is'?  Either way I don't mind; I'd just like to know

Also, please can someone tell me if the main (ie, original) characters - Syd, Jeff, Razor, Wendy, Michael, Bernard - are currently dating other characters in the games?  I'm not trying to be lazy; it's just that I don't know German, so I can't play most of the episodes, and I don't want to go against what other MMM designers have already done.

Michael is dating Bernard's Syster Britney. I guess you can modify the graphics as you want - wheather you want the textures match your style (Edison Interactive did so in Episode 34 and 67) or if you want to add something for a puzzle.

britney is michaels girlfriend but this is not keeping her from dating other guys 

you are free to change graphics but keep in mind that it should stay true to the original
i.e. you are allowed to make bernard wearing a red shirt
but it might be a problem if you change bernards face or skin colour 
locations should also not be changed too much
you can add shadows or slightly changed textures for the walls
but doors or windows should not be repositioned or removed without reason
